Ashtanga United
Honouring A Living Tradition
Ashtanga yoga has been passed from teacher to student for decades, evolving and deepening through each generation.
Ashtanga United brings together deeply experienced Ashtanga yoga teachers, each shaped by different eras of the practice. This event offers you a unique opportunity to experience the wisdom, refinement, and depth of Ashtanga across time.
Ashtanga United is about more than just practice. It’s about connection. A shared space where Ashtanga’s living tradition meets the present moment, and where lineage, experience, and community come together to explore the future of this practice we love so dearly.

'Thanks for hosting the most incredible workshop I've attended to date...'

...and for Scott's, Petri's, Kathy's and Sathu's efforts to support us all on the journey
I never knew my body could let go like it has this 4 days. I've no words for what I've learnt and discovered about my practice this past weekend.
I feel all full of possibilities; it's a beautiful feeling.

A Spacious Practice:
Finding Balance in Ashtanga Yoga
with
Scott Johnson

What you will gain from the retreat
The Spacious Practice retreat is a two-week immersion that invites you to meet Ashtanga yoga through a new lens. It’s for all curious practitioners whether experienced or newer to the method, those navigating challenges or simply seeking a more compassionate way in.
Through breath-led mornings, subtle awareness and deepened listening, embodied movement principles and yoga philosophical insights, you’ll rediscover how to move with intelligence and care, so that practice becomes a place of presence.
Scott Johnson draws on his 20 years of experience teaching Mysore-style Ashtanga Yoga and Mindfulness to shine a light on your yoga practice and help you discover fresh insights.

This is my fifth retreat with Scott. Every time I practice with him, I achieve greater depth in my practice. His adjustments and guidance are tailored to each individual and he knows what you need, when and how. After years of practice, this last retreat in Goa with Scott has given me back the joy of yoga! Thank you so much!

A Yoga Retreat That Meets You Where You Are
A true yoga practice meets us exactly as we are, in all our strength, vulnerability, uncertainty and curiosity. This retreat will offer you that comfort.
Through the teachings of Ashtanga yoga and mindful awareness, held gently in the space of personal inquiry, Scott Johnson will invite you to explore your practice not as something to perfect but as something to feel.
Here, you’re not asked to push, perform, or fit into a shape but only to show up, listen and soften into what’s already unfolding within you.

The Invitation
The practice of Ashtanga yoga offers a beautiful rhythm, structure, and transformation to your life. But sometimes, that structure can become rigid. You show up, but feel a little disconnected. Postures can feel uncertain. You move, but aren’t always listening and understanding the language of the body.
Maybe you’re working with an injury, or something where your practice feels like it has lost its pulse.
There’s a quiet longing in you for a softer way to meet the practice. To maybe keep the same focus, but discover more space, presence and balance.
The Daily Rhythm
Morning Sessions
Each day begins in stillness, with morning meditation and pranayama to create the space from which movement can arise. From that space, we enter our Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga self-practice, meeting it with fresh awareness, curiosity and compassion.
Afternoon Sessions
Explorations in in subtle movement, embodied yoga technique & philosophy, breathing and discussion. These afternoons will be led by the group and the unfolding of our time together and will help you begin to feel the practice from the inside out.

You’ll return not just practicing yoga, but learning how it can play out in your life with presence, rhythm, and grace.

We will celebrate letting go and beginning again with beautiful intentions .

‘I have been playing with yoga on and off for close to 20 years. Over that time I have lost range of motion and mobility. As I have struggled with poses and positions, yoga teachers have always told me “Yoga is a journey”. I thought it must be a very painful trip. I attended Scott’s retreat in Salento and in a week Scott set me on a path to recover 20 years of range of motion and mobility. I now believe that yoga is a journey and Scott is showing me the path. Finally someone who is guiding my journey. With timely adjustments, insightful appraisals of physical limitations and encouragement, Scott has brought joy and most importantly hope and belief to my practice.’

A longtime student of K. Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Jois, Petri received formal authorisation in 2001. His studies extend beyond asana, including pranayama and yoga philosophy with A.G. Mohan and Indra Mohan. With a background in Finnish folk healing, his adjustments are known for being both intuitive and profoundly therapeutic.
