Danny Paradise https://stillpoint.yoga/teachers/danny-paradise/ Mon, 08 Feb 2021 15:56:54 +0000 https://stillpoint.yoga/?post_type=teachers&p=1991 Danny Paradise continues to be a source of inspiration and wisdom and is a dear friend of Stillpoint. Danny has been practising Ashtanga yoga since 1976 and has taught in 42 countries since 1979. He initially studied with David Williams and Nancy Gilgoff, the first western teachers and adepts of Ashtanga yoga, learning all the sequences of Ashtanga from them from 1976-1981. In 1978 and 1980 he also studied with the Indian teacher K. Pattabhi Jois. Danny was an early advanced practitioner and pioneer who played a seminal role introducing people around the world in public classes to the Ashtanga yoga form. He was the first western ‘travelling teacher’ of Ashtanga yoga and continues each year to introduce his style of the exploration of yoga in new countries.

Danny teaches the Ashtanga yoga sequences with emphasis on an expanding, evolving practice as well as showing derivative poses, modifications and variations. He strives to create independence from teachers and systems.

He draws from the teachings of Krishnamurti, Buddhism, ancient Egypt, contemporary teachers such as Carolyne Myss and Marianne Williamson, as well as many shamanic nature-based indigenous native cultures including Mayan, Hawaiian and Native Americans.

Danny communicates the teachings of ancient traditions in a non-dogmatic, contemporary, compassionate, humorous way. He passes on how to experience and create a meditative, therapeutic and ritualistic yoga practice.

He recognises yoga as an ancient shamanic practice and relates yoga to all shamanic, nature-based, indigenous explorations from North and South America, Polynesia, Tibet, Africa and Asia. The yogis and shamans were the early pioneers of consciousness, healing knowledge, and communication with the spirit realms. The basic premise of Shamanism is that nature is our spiritual guide and teacher. Danny’s main objective is guiding people to evolutionary consciousness as well as helping people develop a healing, sacred, personal, meditative, joyful, non-dogmatic yoga practice.

Yoga is designed to create wellbeing, help people fulfil personal destiny and learn to age with vitality, energy and grace. Danny teaches yoga as a means of creating personal authority and personal responsibility leading to universal responsibility.

Danny has studied Kung Fu, Tai Chi and karate. He is a musician, singer, songwriter, performance artist, human rights activist, filmmaker and film producer and has taught some of the world‘s most renowned and talented musicians, actors, sports champions, artists, designers, film directors and dancers.

David Keil https://stillpoint.yoga/teachers/david-keil/ Mon, 08 Feb 2021 15:40:04 +0000 https://stillpoint.yoga/?post_type=teachers&p=1988 David Keil is a dear friend of Stillpoint. We feel he has grown into one of the most relevant and accessible Ashtanga yoga teachers in the world today.

David Keil was introduced to yoga in 1989 by his Tai Chi Chuan teacher. Both his Tai Chi and yoga practice at the age of 17 began his research into his own mind-body connections. His search continued through massage therapy where he discovered many insights and affirmations of what he’d been exploring and finding on his own through his practices. One of the most important elements was the specific understanding of the musculoskeletal system and how fascinating, beautiful and amazing the body is on the scientific level and how that directly played into his own understanding of the human body. He was given names and explanations for some of the things he’d been experiencing and feeling.

As an instructor of kinesiology (the study of movement and musculoskeletal anatomy) at Miami’s Educating Hands School of Massage from 1999-2003, David developed a fun, informal and informative style of teaching. By repeatedly teaching incoming students who had no prior understanding of anatomy, David was confronted with the problem of making such a complex and beautiful system accessible and understandable to the average person.

David brings his unique style and ability to make things simple to the yoga world. Because of his passion and desire to share the human body with everyone, he delivers this complex and sometimes frustrating topic in a way that is very accessible and understandable to yoga practitioners.

Over the years David has used his skills as a Neuromuscular Therapist to help people reduce their chronic pain patterns. He often brings this information into his workshops where students are regularly uncovering painful patterns or injuries in their bodies.

David was introduced to Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga in 1999, but it was in 2001 that he met John Scott in Penzance, Cornwall, presenting his anatomy workshops for the first time overseas. Two weeks of practising with John was transformational and he realised that he’d found his teacher. This began a relationship of both teacher/student as well as a collaborative colleague relationship that continues today.

It was also John who told David to go to Mysore in India the following year, which he did. David arrived in Mysore in 2002 where he studied with K. Pattabhi Jois in the “old” shala. In fact, it was the last year that the old shala was used for practice. David was authorised in 2004 and returned yearly for extended visits to Mysore with his wife Gretchen Suarez. They are both authorised level 2 to teach Ashtanga yoga.

David is owner of  Yoganatomy, a highly successful yoga anatomy education company that delivers online anatomy training to teachers and training providers.

David also owns 3D Muscle Lab, an innovative and groundbreaking new anatomy learning tool that will help you to deepen your understanding of the body.

Manju Jois https://stillpoint.yoga/teachers/manju-jois/ Tue, 19 Jan 2021 16:28:24 +0000 https://stillpoint.yoga/?post_type=teachers&p=1747 Having Manju Jois share his extensive knowledge with us at Stillpoint is an honour. Despite being the oldest living practitioner of Ashtanga yoga, he always comes with such a humbleness and lightness of spirit.

The post Manju Jois appeared first on Stillpoint Yoga.

Manju Jois is the oldest son of K. Pattabhi Jois, recognised worldwide as the foremost authority on Ashtanga yoga. Manju was born on 16th November 1944. At the young age of 7, Manju was awakened early each day by his father to begin lessons that would forever change the course of his life and the lives of those who would study with him in the years to come. He began his teaching career at the age of 15 with his father and has taught ever since.

Manju is dedicated to his mission of teaching the ancient tradition of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, for a total mind-body-spirit unification with Self and has taught the true Mysore Ashtanga method for over 50 years. Manju and his father brought Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga to the USA in 1975 and Manju has travelled worldwide teaching this tradition ever since.

He offers Ashtanga weekend workshops, teacher trainings and intensive week-long classes. He incorporates pranayama and Vedic chantings in his classes, which blend very well with the Ashtanga yoga practice. Manju’s intention is to teach in the way of the ancient tradition and bring the many benefits of Ashtanga yoga to his students.

He hopes to bring “better concentration and understanding” of Ashtanga yoga to his students in a world full of distractions. Manju’s dedication to his life of teaching and practising yoga has brought the benefits of the ancient tradition of Ashtanga yoga to many students throughout the world, as he guides each to “unite with yourself”.

Manju is devoted to his wife Nancy and their young daughter Sathu, born in 2002, who was named after her paternal grandmother. Sathu is a multi-talented, beautiful girl, who continues to bless the Jois family beyond measure.
